Six years ago, Denise Germain found herself in search of a new opportunity after being laid off from a company she had been with for over a decade. Hoping to land somewhere she could stay long-term, Denise joined Leavitt Machinery in a temporary role covering for maternity leave, uncertain if it would become permanent. Fortunately, when the original employee didn’t return, Denise was able to stay, marking the beginning of her fulfilling career with us.
Looking back, Denise remembers the relief she felt when the position became permanent. “It was a big relief,” she shares, reflecting on how the uncertainty of a temporary role turned into a stable, long-term opportunity.
On any given day, Denise tackles her tasks with a sense of pride in her work. While she doesn’t point to any specific project as a standout achievement, she finds joy in knowing that every time a job is completed on time, it’s a success for the whole team. And when the days get tough, Denise takes a quick walk through the shop or yard to clear her mind and stay motivated, always pushing forward.
When asked about the culture at Leavitt, Denise describes it as a “work family.” Regular team bonding events, like breakfast gatherings and weekend campouts, strengthen the team’s connection and camaraderie. "These moments bring us closer," Denise says, highlighting the importance of these gatherings in building relationships that go beyond the daily grind. Her team is also an essential part of her growth. "We help each other through challenges," she explains, adding that the support from her colleagues makes the workday smoother.
For Denise, teamwork is the company value that resonates most. She believes that success is built on collaboration, where each team member plays a role in the company’s achievements. “If I succeed, they succeed, and if they succeed, I succeed,” she says, reflecting on the collective effort that defines Leavitt Machinery’s success.
A recent example of this teamwork in action came when her team had to prep 11 light towers for a customer on a tight deadline. “It took all of us working together to meet that deadline,” she recalls, proud of the way the team came together to get the job done.
When she’s not at work, Denise channels her passion for photography and the thrill of motorbiking. She enjoys spending her free time behind the camera lens, capturing moments, or out on the open road, feeling the freedom of an exhilarating ride. These hobbies offer her a refreshing break from her day-to-day responsibilities and allow her to explore her creative and adventurous sides.
As she looks to the future, Denise is excited about continuing her journey with Leavitt Machinery. Her advice to newcomers is simple but valuable: "Be patient and don’t be too hard on yourself." Reflecting on her own experience, she explains that it took her six to eight months to fully understand her role as a service dispatcher, and even today, she still learns something new every day.
We’re proud to have dedicated team members like Denise, who embody the values of teamwork, growth, and resilience, contributing to our success every step of the way.
