At Leavitt Machinery, we’re proud to have exceptional team members who embody our core values and drive our success. This month, we're excited to feature Jonah, an Operator Training Instructor, whose journey has been marked by dedication, growth, and a commitment to safety.
Jonah began his journey with ALIFT in 2016, working part-time as a general laborer while attending school. In 2019, a turning point came when he was given the opportunity to work in the Operator Training department, stepping in as an instructor. By the middle of 2020, Jonah was not only instructing but also managing the entire training department. When ALIFT was acquired by Leavitt Machinery in July 2022, Jonah continued his role as an instructor, contributing to our team with his expertise and passion for safety.
A typical day for Jonah involves conducting training courses, whether at the Leavitt Machinery Windsor training facility or on-site at customer facilities. He's particularly proud of managing the Windsor branch solo, taking pride in ensuring everything runs smoothly. On challenging days, Jonah stays motivated by knowing that others are relying on him. As he puts it, "We play a vital role as instructors to keep the operators and people around them safe." Jonah describes the team culture as collaborative, connected, and flexible.
Whenever he needs to learn how to teach a new program, senior instructors guide him every step of the way. He appreciates the support he receives from his colleagues, who are always available to help. Leavitt Machinery has provided Jonah with the tools and encouragement to excel. He recently expanded his knowledge in rigging, thanks to guidance from a senior instructor. Additionally, Jonah has taken on mentorship opportunities, such as cross-training a new instructor, Steve Coates, who is now independently teaching courses for Leavitt Machinery.
Safety resonates deeply with Jonah, as his daily work is directly related to it. He sees the company's mission reflected in his daily interactions, especially when customers leave the facility feeling more comfortable and confident in their skills.
Outside of work, Jonah enjoys golfing, playing hockey, and relaxing in the hot tub or sauna. He also coaches youth sports, volunteering his time with the same organizations he grew up in. Looking ahead, Jonah aims to continue growing and developing as a person and instructor. He plans to be a key contributor to the growth and success of the LCAN East training department over the next five years.
For new recruits, Jonah advises understanding customers' needs and wants, emphasizing that building trust and belief with the customer base is key to success.
Jonah's journey at Leavitt Machinery showcases his dedication, passion, and commitment to safety. We're proud to have him as part of our team, exemplifying the values and spirit that make Leavitt Machinery a great place to work.
