Defensive Driving Training – Demerit Reduction
This online Defensive Driving Training has been approved by the Alberta Government for a reduction of 3 demerit points. Non-Alberta residents may still complete this program, but they will not qualify to receive the demerit reduction. Instead, they will only receive an online course completion certificate.
The content within this online Defensive Driving Training consists of audio, video, and interactive exercises. This program teaches the trademarked SAFER System of Defensive Driving. As a result, participants are instructed in the best driving practices and defensive driving mindsets.
Defensive Driving Training Topics
- Driver competency model.
- SAFER System of Defensive Driving.
- Adverse driving conditions.
- Common collisions (rear end, backing, intersection).
- Other collisions:
- Drinking, driving, and drugs.
- Hazards associated with fatigue.
- Distracted driving and cellphone-related collisions.
Defensive Driving Training Course Duration
6 hours. This course can be started, paused, and resumed as needed.
Assessment, Testing, and Completion
As stated above, a mark of at least 80% must be achieved to pass this course. If this mark is not obtained on the first attempt, participants will be granted up to two additional attempts. Upon completion of this course, participants will be mailed a certificate of completion. This certificate can be taken to a local registry office within Alberta to obtain the driving demerit reduction.
